Zend has released Zend DBi, a build of the MySQL database for the IBM i platform. Zend has picked up were Oracle left off by introducing the MySQL replacement (basically, a MySQL 5.1.59 distribution). This new package includes the latest IBM DB2i storage engine, so PHP applications that use MySQL can store data in DB2. Zend DBi is built from the same open-source code as MySQL, and as such, is a 100 percent compatible drop-in replacement. Zend and IBM promise to keep the new offering updated and include all features and bug fixes previously introduced in MySQL.
Zend DBi is part of the Zend PHP technology stack for IBM i, which enables users to leverage open solutions while keeping web and mobile workloads on IBM i systems where databases, business logic, and legacy applications reside.
